I was taking a leisurely ride around Brisbane when the Gilligan's Island theme song just kept replaying in my head. Sometimes this can be a message from our guardian angles delivering us an important message, so when I returned home I quickly looked up the lyrics on the web. Initially I was not aware of how this related to my life at this time, however after reading the lyrics and listening to the song several times I began to become clear about what my guardian angles where attempting to show me. Check out my interpretation below.
Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip
That started from this tropic port
Aboard this tiny ship.
This stanza represents the beginning of the relationship. "They started from this tropic port" is the key line. What comes your mind when you think of a tropical port? For me, when I've been in such a location I've been feeling happy and excited with anticipation towards what was about to come.
The mate was a mighty sailing man,
The skipper brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day
For a three hour tour, a three hour tour.
Obviously represents the two people at the beginning of the relationship. The "Three hour tour" may indicate an expectation of this exciting new direction for both people as they develop feelings for each other i.e only hearts in their eyes for each other
The weather started getting rough,
The tiny ship was tossed,
If not for the courage of the fearless crew
The Minnow would be lost, the Minnow would be lost.
At some stage after the relationship has been developing for a period of time (some like to call this the end of the honey moon period) cracks start to appear and the relationship begins to get rough as each person begins to be triggered by the other. The relationship doesn't end at this point because they are now beginning to learn to love and accept themselves through each other.
The ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle
With Gilligan
The Skipper too,
The millionaire and his wife,
The movie star
The Professor and Mary Ann,*
Here on Gilligan's Isle.
The relationship is now in unchartered territory as each person in the relationship courageously accepts accountability for their own weakness.
Full Version Continues:
Now this is the tale of our castaways,
They're here for a long, long time,
They'll have to make the best of things,
It's an uphill climb.
Both people attempt to accept the idea the relationship may never return to the westernized romantic novel of happily ever after and "make the best of things" continuing to choose to work and grow with each other over the long term.
The first mate and his Skipper too,
Will do their very best,
To make the others comfortable,
In their tropic island nest.
Both people commit to "doing their very best" to make things as comfortable as possible in an attempt to make their current situation as close to each of their ideal relationship as possible.
No phone, no lights, no motor car,
Not a single luxury,
Like Robinson Crusoe,
It's primitive as can be.
This stanza seems to make a point about the glamour of life i.e opposite of primitive. Each person in the relationship is attuned enough to remain objective (what is actually happening here - primitive look) towards the issues at hand, attempting not to entertain unrealistic perceptions resulting in emotional states which then consign blame.
So join us here each week my friend,
You're sure to get a smile,
From seven stranded castaways,
Here on "Gilligan's Isle."
If each person in the relationship can get above what's actually happening and lets say imagine how a highly evolved being may consider the situation, it may bring a smile. In the words of my old GP Dr. Oneil, she once said, "Life is Arbitrary, its just a game. How serious do you want to play it?"
